About KhatMarouf
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله و بركاته
My name is Abdul-Rahman Marouf. I am a student of Traditional Arabic Calligraphy. It all started when I was around 9 or 10 years old. I was memorizing Quran in school and developed a fascination for the beautiful writing in the Uthmani Mus’haf. I tried to mimic and practice by myself to the best of my ability, but made little progress. It was not until my late teens that discovered that to learn calligraphy you need formal instruction and lessons from reputable, qualified teachers. That is when I decided to go abroad (Sharjah, UAE) and study formally under Ustath Anwar Al-Helwani. I received my Ijaza in the Thuluth and Naskh fonts from him in 2024. Around that same time, I started working with Ustath Yacoub Ibrahim Shawrieh in Amman, Jordan, and Ustath Hayder Mohsin in Dallas, Texas, both of which were students and good friends of the late Abbas Al-Baghdadi (رحمة االله عليه). The mission of KhatMarouf is to help people learn Arabic calligraphy, virtually and in-person, while maintaining the traditional methods that make this a special artform.
